Gold panning and mines
– rich experiences |
 |
GOLD is the metal that captivates our dreams. Here you’ll find the dreams themselves, even though not all that glitters is gold. Even stone from Småland is valuable. In Ädelfors you can certainly find gold, either on your own or with an experienced gold panner. It was here that Sweden's first gold deposit was discovered in 1738, and pure gold was extracted from the mine. In early 2008, the Swedish Gold Panning Championships will take place here.
Stand in the beautiful gold bearing waters of Emån River with your pan; that glittering grain could be the start of your first million. Just in case, there are other earthly riches in the Mining and Mineral Museum. Here you’ll see minerals, fossils and precious stones in magnificent display cases of Gustavian cut.

 |
KLEVA Mine reminds us of the painstaking labour required to travel into the heart of the Earth and find treasure. The mine once yielded copper and nickel, but today gives you exciting experiences of the raw cold, dampness, dark and the glimmering walls surrounding the walkways. At the mine you can make your way up climbing walls, pan for gold in trenches or go on a treasure hunt and enjoy the glorious view from above. Why not gather some friends around a genuinely cosy campfire? Gaze into the flames and relax.
During the 19th century, slate was mined in the Hörnebo slate quarry to make pretty roofs. The mine is one of Sweden's most beautiful quarries. Today the rocky slopes remain, providing new, picturesque scenery. Keep your eyes peeled for cultural events in the illuminated mine. The stones come alive when culture and dramatic nature are combined. |

FISHING IN LAKE SOMMEN |
There are about 22 different species in lake Sommen. One that is most worth protecting is the Sommen char but also the salmon trout. Because of the shape of the lake with its narrow and shallow bays and archipelago areas and the great depth, there is a lot of space for many species. The lake offers the angler large areas to fish. The variation of the character and the large amount of species give the angler a good variation regardless of whether you fish from land, boat or ice. |
